How much e-waste is in the waste stream?

In 2009 an estimate of 438 million electronic products were sold, which represents double what it was in 1997. Mobile device sales during that time period increased nine fold being a leading driver in the increase. That significant growth in sales has lead to an increase in storage and end of life management of electronics. An estimated five million short tons of e-waste products were in storage in 2009, with CRT’s being stored at the highest rate. Approximately 2.37 million tons of e-waste were ready for end of life management with only 25% of it being collected for recycling. This number has most certainly increased since the 2009 findings which makes finding an IT Asset Manager who will take care of all your end of life assets and electronics in storage with your companies image, our environment and maximizing your ROI in mind.
